In order to focus on the ablator physics, and to simplify the modeling, we use planar samples of ablator materials (as opposed to spherical fuel capsules).
And we mount these planar samples over holes on the exterior of hohlraums, rather then suspending them in the middle of the hohlraum interiors.
Also, we use “halfraums”, with just one opening for laser beams. This simplifies the geometry and also allows us to achieve higher temperatures.
