Ne X 12.134 Angstroms

Non-porous models

Note: Both MEG and HEG are fit simultaneously. There are 805 MEG counts and 271 HEG counts in the spectral region we fit (and plot below). See the fitting log. We eliminated the red wing beyond 12.18 due to blending with an iron line at 12.24.

Continuum fit on 11.94:12.02 and 12.23:12.26; then we fit only the bluer section. We use a value for the continuum level that's consistent with both choices. View the spectral region near the line: MEG or HEG. For n=2, best-fit norm=1.64e-3. The 68% confidence limits on the normalization are +/- 5e-4. And the best fit is formally a good fit.

powerlaw continuum, n=2; norm=1.64e-3
taustar=2.03   +/- (1.75:2.27)
uo=0.681   +/- (0.631:0.731)
norm=2.69e-4 +/- (2.62e-4:2.80e-4)
rejection probability = 63% (C=191.35; N=176)

Here are the 68%, 90%, and 95% joint confidence limits on taustar and Ro based on fitting the MEG and HEG data together. The filled circle represents the best-fit model, shown as the red histograms on the above two plots.

We also explore the effects of excluding more of the red wing and, separately, of allowing q to be a free parameter.

Next, we fit isotropic porosity models to the data. And after that, anisotropic porosity models.
